What We Believe: Confessional, Evangelical, Scriptural, Liturgical on Bainbridge Island

Port Madison Lutheran Church confesses historic, Bible-based Christian faith on Bainbridge Island. Explore our confessional Lutheran beliefs and ancient liturgy.

We are a confessional and evangelical Lutheran congregation committed to the centrality of the Gospel and the historic liturgy of the Christian Church. Christ crucified for the sin of the world is the message we proclaim each Sunday from the pages of the Bible.

Holy Scripture

Port Madison Lutheran Church confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe. The Holy Scriptures are the inspired, inerrant, and unfailing Word of God, and the authoritative source and norm of our proclamation, faith, and life. The Bible teaches both God's demand for human life in the Law and the promise of our salvation in the Gospel. Above all, Scripture bears witness to our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins on the cross so that we might be justified and forgiving by faith alone in His Word.

Confessional, Evangelical Heritage

We hold to the ecumenical creeds (Apostles', Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds) and the Lutheran Confessions, both contained in the 1580 Book of Concord, as faithful expositions of the Holy Scriptures and true declarations of the faith of the Christian Church. The classic, tested truths of the ancient, universal church shape our faith, life, teaching, and worship.

The Divine Service: Sacramental and Liturgical Worship

In our historic Bainbridge Island sanctuary, we gather every Sunday for the Divine Service using traditional liturgies like our Lutheran Book of Worship. Through Holy Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, God delivers His real grace, forgiveness, and salvation to us in tangible ways. In Baptism, Christ claims his people with the word joined to the water; in the Eucharist, Jesus imparts his true body and blood for the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation.
