Service

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.   Matthew 5:14-16

Opportunities to Serve in Ministry

We actively support and are involved in various local and worldwide ministries:

We are continually seeking new opportunities to share Christ’s love through service to our neighbor. Please speak to Pastor Hoyum about any new ministries you have a heart for.

Other Opportunities to Serve:

Usher

Ushers welcome those who come to worship.  They ring the church bell at the beginning and end of the service, hand out bulletins, gather the offering, and guide people to the altar for the Lord’s Supper.

Acolyte

During the opening hymn the acolyte lights the candles on the altar (and any other candles that should be lit during that season of the church year) and extinguish them during the closing hymn.  Acolytes also assist at the altar during the Lord’s Supper.  We encourage our young members to be acolytes - but anyone is welcome to do so!

Lector

A lector is someone who reads Sunday’s scripture readings during the worship service and leads the congregation in the responsive reading of the Psalm for the day.  There are normally two scripture readings - one from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament.

Communion Assistant

Communion Assistants assist the pastor at the altar during the Lord’s Supper.  They carry the chalice or tray and offer wine to the people who have come forward to receive Holy Communion.

Coffee Hour

We gather for fellowship in the Social Hall after our worship service.  Every Sunday one or two people/families provide refreshments (baked goods, fruit, cheese or other snacks) and make coffee and tea available as well as clean up afterward.

Altar Guild

Our Altar Guild is made up of 3 rotating groups of volunteers whose ministry is to care for the altar, vestments, vessels and altar linens of the church. They prepare Communion for the worship service each week and change the sanctuary’s paraments as determined by the season of the church year.

Church Council

Our Church Council is made up of a minimum of 12 elected members of the congregation and the Pastor.  The Council has general oversight of the life and activities of the congregation, and in particular its worship life, to the end that everything be done in accordance with the Word of God, the Lutheran Confessions and the faith and practice of the NALC. The Council is responsible for the financial and property matters of the church and sees that the provisions of the constitution, the congregation’s bylaws and continuing resolutions are carried out.

Deacons

Deacons assist the pastor through parish visitation to shut-ins, those in care facilities, or in the hospital.  They also support the pastor through prayer and participation in worship, fellowship and service.  A Deacon is in charge of each Faith in Action Group.  Three Deacons serve each year as voting members of the church council per our Constitution, but anyone can serve as a Deacon (non-voting).

Trustees

Trustees care for the building and grounds of the church.  Trustees tend to the lawn and gardens, maintain the church grounds, and make all necessary repairs to the building. They also look for ways we can enhance the beauty of our wonderful facility.  Three Trustees serve each year as voting members of the church council per our Constitution, but anyone can serve as a Trustee (non-voting).
